Suspended game between Gigantes and Águilas in San Francisco de Macorís
The game between the Gigantes del Cibao and the Águilas Cibaeñas, scheduled for this Monday at the Julián Javier Stadium, was suspended due to the heavy rains that hit the northeast region of the country.
The match, which was originally scheduled for 5:00 p.m., had to be postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
Subsequently, it was rescheduled for 7:00 p.m., but technical inconveniences in the stadium’s electrical system, caused by an accident in the vicinity, forced a new modification.
However, the Águilas Cibaeñas, already informed of the time change, did not move to San Francisco de Macorís, which led to the definitive suspension of the game.
This matchup was the second of three between both teams in the current 2025-2026 Round Robin of the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), and the third of six scheduled between Gigantes and Águilas at this venue.
Postponement is a rare event at the Julián Javier Stadium, where a game had not been suspended due to rain since January 19, 2018, precisely in a match against the Águilas Cibaeñas.
The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported that at least five provinces are on alert due to a trough and a front system, responsible for the rains and electrical storms that have affected several areas of the country.
In the sports field, the situation is complicated for the Gigantes del Cibao, who have a record of 0-7 in the Round Robin, placing them in last place in the standings and with little chance of advancing to the Final Series.
