Águilas Cibaeñas Tie with Toros del Este in Exciting Game

Santo Domingo – Las Águilas Cibaeñas achieved a crucial victory over the Toros del Este with a score of 6-2, thanks to an impressive five-run rally in the seventh inning. This result caused a tie in the second position of the Round Robin semifinal of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), but the game is under protest.

The victory ties both teams with a 10-7 record, leaving the classification to the final series in suspense until the decisive day this Saturday.

The protest was filed by the leader of the Toros, Víctor Estévez, who argues that the Águilas registered nine imported players on the official roster, exceeding the limit of eight foreigners established in the LIDOM regulations (article 30).

LIDOM has reported that it will issue a decision on the protest before the Round Robin concludes.

In the game, the Eagles overcame a 0-2 deficit in the seventh inning. Leody Taveras and Geraldo Perdomo hit RBI singles, while other runs came via bases on balls with the bases loaded and a passed ball by catcher Onix Vega.

Jerar Encarnación scored the first run of the inning after a walk to Andretty Cordero. Subsequently, Taveras and Perdomo drove in runs with hits, and Elih Marrero scored thanks to a defensive error. Although Ezequiel Durán hit into a double play, Taveras scored the run that turned the score around. Perdomo scored the sixth run after another walk with the bases loaded.

The Cuban opener for the Águilas, Odrisamer Despaigne, had a solid performance, working five innings, allowing two hits and two runs, with three walks and four strikeouts.

The two runs for the Toros were the product of a single by Onix Vega in the fourth inning, driving in two runs.

The last date of the Round Robin will be decisive. The Toros del Este will face the Gigantes del Cibao, while the Águilas Cibaeñas will play against the Leones del Escogido, awaiting LIDOM’s decision on the protest.
