Dominicans dominate MLB: Soriano and Alcántara shine, Devers homers

Santo Domingo – The Major League Baseball day highlighted Dominican talent, with outstanding performances both on the mound and in the offense. José Soriano and Sandy Alcántara led from the mound, while Rafael Devers, Juan Soto and other compatriots boosted the offense on a memorable date for the Dominican representation.

Domain on the Mound

José Soriano (10-9, 3.68) impressed against the Houston Astros, pitching seven scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and striking out eight. His performance led to his team’s 3-0 victory. This was his ninth scoreless start of the season and the second consecutive, solidifying him as a strong arm with an 8-2 record and a 2.47 ERA on the road. Sandy Alcántara (8-11, 5.66) showed his quality at Citi Field, recalling his Cy Young days by pitching seven innings with four hits, one run, and six strikeouts, leading the Marlins to a 5-1 victory over the Mets. The pitcher reached 100 miles per hour and was involved in an altercation after hitting Mark Vientos in the seventh inning, which caused the benches to clear. Agustín Ramírez, also Dominican, contributed with his 19th home run and two RBIs (60 in total). Juan Soto had a 4-1 performance and stole his 26th base of the year, getting closer to the possibility of a 30-30.In San Francisco, Rafael Devers continued his offensive streak, batting 5-3 with his 28th home run, 30th double, and three RBIs, totaling 90 RBIs on the season, in the Giants’ 10-0 victory over the Orioles. Other Dominicans also left their mark on the game: Alexander Canario hit his fifth home run with the Pirates; Oneil Cruz reached 36 stolen bases; Julio Rodríguez drove in two runs in Seattle’s victory; Elly de la Cruz added his 28th double with the Reds; Vladimir Guerrero Jr. drove in his 74th run with the Blue Jays; and Wenceel Pérez had two hits in the Tigers’ victory. In the Bronx, Luis Gil started for the Yankees, pitching 5.1 innings with two runs and seven strikeouts, without getting a decision. Aaron Judge hit his 43rd home run, tying Yogi Berra with 358 career home runs with the Yankees.
