Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico Dominate Women’s Handball Qualifier

SANTO DOMINGO – The Women’s Caribbean Handball Cup, which serves as a qualifier for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, has begun with victories for the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico teams. The Table Tennis Pavilion of the Parque del Este is the venue for this competition.

Dominican Republic Imposes Its Dominance

The Dominican team demonstrated their superiority by defeating Costa Rica with a score of 33-18. The first half already showed a clear advantage for the home team, with a partial result of 14-6. Yojavel Brito, Nancy Peña and Mariela Altagracia led the Dominican offense, scoring five goals each. Danilza Liranzo, Florquidea Puello and Olkidia Cuevas also contributed with four goals each. For Costa Rica, Valeria Taborda was the most outstanding with four goals, while Diana Álvarez and Reychel Vargas scored three goals each.

Puerto Rico Prevails in a Hard-Fought Match

In the other match of the day, Puerto Rico took the victory against Cuba with a score of 31-26. The first half ended with Puerto Rico leading 17-15. Delianne Ceballos was the key figure for Puerto Rico, scoring seven goals. Zuleika Fuentes contributed six goals and Edianed Benítez four. For Cuba, Lietis Beltrán and María de las Mercedes Mazorra scored six goals each, while Zajaris Hernández added five and Diancy González four. The competition continues this Wednesday with two matches scheduled for 3:00 and 5:00 in the afternoon.
