The Dominican boxing team continues its successful performance in the 45th National Independence Cup, securing three more spots for the semifinals. The event, which is being held at the sports complex of the CUPES club in Santiago, has witnessed exciting fights and the advancement of talented pugilists.
New Semi-Finalists
Fredelin de los Santos (55 kg), Noel Pacheco (80 kg) and Jose Augusto Triset (+90 kg) achieved decisive victories that guarantee them a place in the semifinals. De los Santos defeated Jose Daniel Felipe Mejia (GUT) with a score of 5-0, while Pacheco defeated Jorge Marino Ocho (CUB) also with a resounding 5-0. Triset, for his part, obtained a unanimous 5-0 victory against Randy Manuel Peralta (Stgo).
In this day, the teams from Cuba and Santiago managed to qualify two boxers each, while Dom-B and Stgo-B secured one place each.
Arislandy Alvarez, Olympic gold medalist for Cuba, advanced to the semifinals in the 65 kg category, after defeating Ezequiel Martinez (Santiago) 5-0. His compatriot Julio Cesar de la Cruz also secured his place, winning by RSC in the second round against Seth Lawrence of Barbados in the +90 kg division.
Keury Alcantara (Santiago) advanced in the 55 kg category by knocking out Jahir Villa (ECU) in the second round, and Javier Valdez (Santiago) defeated Randy Lexi (Dom-B) 4-1 in the 65 kg.
Carlos Daniel (Dom-B) also secured his place in the semifinals in the 55 kg category, defeating Colcha Steven (ECU) by RSC in the second round. Wilmer Valerio (Santiago B) prevailed over Charles Cox (Barbados) in the 80 kg category, securing his place in the next round.
This prestigious boxing tournament features the participation of boxers from eight countries and is organized by the Santiago Boxing Association, under the direction of Miguel Martinez, and with the support of the Dominican Boxing Federation (Fedoboxa), chaired by Ruben Garcia. Pappy Perez is the director of the event.
Martinez highlighted the great support of the Santiago fans and the backing of the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, as well as the local mayor Ulises Rodriguez.
