In the 2026 Major League season, the fight for the coveted National League Cy Young Award is fierce, with several pitchers standing out with impressive performances. Among them, Dominican Cristopher Sánchez, of the Philadelphia Phillies, has positioned himself as a strong contender.

Sánchez has cemented his candidacy thanks to a remarkable streak. The lefty has managed to accumulate 44.2 consecutive innings without allowing runs, setting a new record for the Philadelphia franchise. In addition, he is only 14.1 innings away from the historical record of Major Leagues for a season, established by Orel Hershiser.
In the previous season, Sánchez already proved his worth by finishing second in the Cy Young voting. Currently, he leads the Majors among qualified starters with an ERA of 1.47 and also tops the National League in FIP with 1.81.
His performance in May was particularly notable, with five scoreless starts, accumulating 39 innings, 45 strikeouts, and only three walks. This solidifies his position as one of the leading contenders for the award.
Other Outstanding Candidates
Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers is also in contention. Ohtani has shined both offensively and on the mound. Recently, he pitched six no-hit innings against the Rockies and boasts an impressive 0.82 ERA in 55 innings pitched this season. His opponents are barely batting .147 against him.

Chris Sale of the Atlanta Braves continues to demonstrate his quality with an ERA of 1.89 and 72 strikeouts in his first 10 starts. His numbers surpass those of the 2024 season, when he won the National League Cy Young.
More Names in the Competition
The competition for the Cy Young award extends to other outstanding pitchers. Kyle Harrison, from Milwaukee, with an ERA of 1.57; Chase Burns, from Cincinnati, with a 1.96 earned run average; and Zack Wheeler, from Philadelphia, who has returned in great form after surgery, are also considered.
