Out of Stock: Free Condoms Disappear at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Village
Just three days before the start of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, the Fiames Olympic Village has witnessed an unusual event: the exhaustion of the 10,000 free condoms provided for the athletes. The news, revealed by a high-performance athlete who preferred to remain anonymous, has caused a stir in the organization.
Consumption, cataloged as a record, took the organizers by surprise, who have already promised a new batch of condoms. However, the exact date of their arrival has not yet been specified.
According to estimates, around 2,871 athletes will participate in this winter edition, a significantly lower number than the more than 10,500 who competed in the recent Paris 2024 Summer Games.
The free distribution of condoms is a tradition rooted in the Olympic Games, initiated in 1988 by the International Olympic Committee. This initiative seeks to promote health and prevent sexually transmitted diseases. The only interruption occurred in Tokyo 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In contrast, during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, up to 300,000 condoms were distributed among the athletes. The initial amount planned for Milan-Cortina has proven to be insufficient.
Despite the restrictions on visits in the accommodations, the so-called “relaxation room” became a very busy meeting point.
