Robinson Canó Excited After Tribute in New York
The renowned Dominican baseball player Robinson Canó expressed his deep emotion after being honored in an emotional encounter at Citi Field in New York. The event, which pitted the teams of the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico against each other, will be etched in his memory in a special way.Canó, visibly moved, shared his feelings with the press. The tribute took place during a game that celebrated the careers of Canó himself and former slugger Carlos Delgado. The match featured the participation of the teams from the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) and the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (LBPRC). The player highlighted the importance of this recognition, considering it a reward for the hard work done both on and off the field. “As a player, to look back and have this type of tribute or recognition made for me is an honor and means a lot,” he added. Canó, who started the game as second baseman and third in the offensive order, was removed from the field, amidst tears and the ovation of the public, by his compatriot and former Mets player, Luis Castillo. The veteran infielder explained that the tribute is not a retirement. “It’s not a retirement from baseball, but a tribute, since in baseball after you pass 35 years old it gets difficult and I’ve been out of the Major Leagues for several years,” said Canó. Canó revealed that the president of the Dominican National Federation of Baseball Players, Erik Almonte, invited him to be honored at this event.
