Jeimer Candelario and Travis Lakins, MVP of the Week in the LIDOM

Third baseman Jeimer Candelario, representing the Toros del Este, and pitcher Travis Lakins, from the Leones del Escogido, were honored as the Most Valuable Players (MVP) of the week of December 1st to 7th, during the seventh awards ceremony of the 2025-2026 autumn-winter baseball championship, dedicated to Juan Marichal and in dispute of the Banreservas Cup. The ceremony, led by Ron Ozama, took place at the Cibao Stadium in Santiago and was attended by numerous communicators and representatives of the teams. The event also recognized Bryan de la Cruz and Jorge Tavárez, who were awarded the previous week.

Candelario: An Offensive Pillar for the Bulls

Jeimer Candelario led the voting with 43 votes, surpassing his teammate Allan Castro, who obtained 17 votes. During the five games of the week, Candelario demonstrated an outstanding offensive performance, with an average of .333 (7 hits in 21 at-bats), including a home run and a triple. His offensive line was completed with an OBP of .391, a slugging of .619 and an OPS of 1.010. This recognition marks the seventeenth time that a Toros player has received this award since the LIDOM resumed the awards in the 2022-2023 season.

Lakins: Domain from the Hill

Travis Lakins won the pitcher voting with 49 votes, leaving behind Jean Carlos Henríquez (Águilas Cibaeñas), who obtained 31 votes, and Aaron Brooks (Toros), with 23 votes. Lakins made two starts for the Leones, accumulating 10 innings, allowing 2 earned runs, 5 hits and striking out 8 batters. His ERA was 1.80 and he finished with a WHIP of 0.50, becoming the seventh pitcher of the Leones to be recognized with this award.

Additional Acknowledgments

In the awards event, Víctor García Sued, president of the Águilas, and Jesús Mejía, general manager of the Toros, were present. In addition, the league paid tribute to three communicators from Santiago: David Cepeda, Marino Vásquez, and Emanuel Tavarez. The selection of the MVP of the week is based on the combination of votes from accredited communicators and the league’s digital voting, ensuring recognition of the most outstanding performances in each competition period.
