Junior Caminero: The Dominican Star Shining in the World Baseball Classic
A little over a year ago, few anticipated the meteoric rise of Junior Caminero, the young Dominican. Today, the third baseman has established himself as one of the most important offensive figures for the Dominican Republic National Team in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. After being crowned champion with the Leones del Escogido in the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League and completing an impressive rookie season in the Major Leagues with the Tampa Bay Rays, where he hit 45 home runs, Caminero arrives fired up for the international tournament. The capital hitter has been fundamental in the explosive start of the Dominican team, which has achieved two victories with a wide margin of runs, including a knockout victory against the Netherlands National Team. In the match against the Nicaraguan National Team, Caminero hit crucial hits that tilted a match that remained close in the early innings. Days later, he again demonstrated his worth with a powerful home run that opened the way to victory against the Dutch.The story is even more special, as Caminero had expressed his desire to be part of the Dominican team, even if it was in a secondary role, in order to represent his country in the tournament.This is their show. Despite his prominence, Caminero enjoys sharing the clubhouse with baseball greats, especially Manny Machado, whom he considers one of his idols. It’s a dream to be next to Machado. I am trying to learn everything I can.
