Colorado Rockies Announce Changes in Coaching Staff

Denver, USA – The Colorado Rockies today announced significant changes in their management structure. Bud Black is leaving his position as team manager, along with Mike Redmond, bench coach, thus ending a nine-season cycle.

This decision comes at a difficult time for the team, which currently has a record of 7-33.

Warren Schaeffer, who served as the third base coach, has been named interim manager and will lead the team until the end of the 2025 season. Additionally, Clint Hurdle, former manager and current hitting coach, will temporarily assume the role of bench coach.

“Our performance so far this season, especially after the last two, has been unacceptable. Our fans deserve better, and we are capable of better. While we all share responsibility, these changes were necessary,” commented Dick Monfort, owner and chairman of the Rockies.

Bud Black took the reins of the Rockies in 2017, managing to lead the team to the postseason in his first two seasons. However, the team has not managed to qualify for the playoffs since then. During his tenure, he accumulated a record of 544 wins and 690 losses.

Schaeffer, 40, becomes the eighth manager in the franchise’s history. Prior to his promotion to the Major League team in 2023, he managed for a decade in the Rockies’ Minor League system, including two seasons with the Triple-A Albuquerque team.

“Warren is the right person to guide us at this stage. He has a great ability to connect with veterans and young people, and he is an excellent communicator,” said General Manager Bill Schmidt.

The club will use the remainder of the season to restructure and evaluate all its operations, with the aim of starting a new chapter for the Rockies.
