Dominican Republic Secures Presence in Independence Boxing Cup Semifinals
The Dominican national team continues its successful participation in the 45th National Independence Boxing Cup, securing the classification of three additional boxers to the semifinals. The event, which is being held at the CUPES club’s sports complex in Santiago, has demonstrated a high level of competition.
Fredelin de los Santos (55 kg), Noel Pacheco (80 kg) and Jose Augusto Triset (+90 kg) achieved decisive victories that guarantee them a place in the next phase of the tournament. De los Santos defeated Jose Daniel Felipe Mejia (GUT) with a score of 5-0, while Pacheco overcame Jorge Marino Ocho (CUB) with the same result. Triset also obtained a unanimous 5-0 victory against Randy Manuel Peralta (Stgo).
In this day, the teams from Cuba and Santiago managed to qualify two boxers each, while Dom-B and Stgo-B secured one spot each.
Cuban boxer Arislandy Alvarez, an Olympic gold medalist, advanced to the semifinals in the 65 kg category after defeating Ezequiel Martinez (Santiago) with a score of 5-0. His compatriot Julio Cesar de la Cruz also secured his place, defeating Seth Lawrence (Barbados) by RSC in the second round in the +90 division.
Keury Alcantara (Santiago) advanced in the 55 kg division by knocking out Jahir Villa (ECU) by RSC in the second round. Javier Valdez (Santiago) also qualified by defeating Randy Lexi (Dom-B) with a score of 4-1 in the 65 kg category.
Carlos Daniel (Dom-B) also secured his place in the semifinals in the 55 kg category, after defeating Colcha Steven (ECU) by RSC in the second round. Wilmer Valerio (Santiago B) prevailed over Charles Cox (Barbados) in the 80 kg category, securing his place in the next round.
The tournament, which features the participation of boxers from eight nations, is organized by the Santiago Boxing Association, under the direction of Miguel Martinez, and is endorsed by the Dominican Boxing Federation (Fedoboxa), chaired by Ruben Garcia. Pappy Perez, a renowned sports journalist, is the director of the event.
Martinez expressed his gratitude for the support received for the realization of the 45th National Independence Boxing Cup, highlighting the support of the city’s fans, as well as the support of the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, and the local mayor, Ulises Rodriguez.
