Barcelona plans tribute to Messi at the Camp Nou reopening

FC Barcelona aims to centralize the reopening of the renovated Spotify Camp Nou in an emotional tribute to Lionel Messi, according to internal club sources. The ceremony, which is planned for the start of the 2026-2027 season, will seek to honor the Argentine star, considered one of the most emblematic footballers in the club’s history. Messi was forced to leave Barcelona in the summer of 2021 due to financial difficulties, which prevented him from saying a proper goodbye to the fans at the stadium. The player went through the French PSG before joining Inter Miami, where he is currently continuing his career. The Barcelona directive considers it crucial to settle this “unfinished business” with Messi, recognizing his impact and legacy in the institution. The works on the new stadium, which will already host the Joan Gamper trophy this summer with reduced capacity, will conclude at the beginning of the 2026-27 season with the installation of the roof, reaching a total capacity of 105,000 spectators. The official inauguration of the stadium, including the tribute to Messi, will take place once all the works are finished.
