Bad Bunny Offered to Pay Insurance for Carlos Correa in the World Baseball Classic

The renowned Puerto Rican shortstop Carlos Correa revealed a surprising proposal from urban artist Bad Bunny. The singer offered to cover the insurance policy that would allow Correa to participate with Puerto Rico in the next World Baseball Classic. Despite the good intention, the offer was not approved by the Houston Astros, the office of the commissioner of Major League Baseball, nor by his agent, Scott Boras.

Everyone told me it was a bad idea. I was warned that the proposed insurance company had a history of not paying players. Since it was not approved by MLB, by the organization, or by my agent, I couldn’t sign something that three people I trust recommended I not accept.

Bad Bunny’s proposal also included insurance coverage for Francisco Lindor, a key figure for the New York Mets, who, like Correa, needed a policy to be authorized to play in the tournament. The lack of adequate insurance prevented the participation of Correa, Lindor, and other Puerto Rican players in the event. Although Bad Bunny’s gesture was a clear show of support for the Puerto Rican national team, accepting external coverage could have generated conflicts with Major League Baseball regulations, especially regarding contracts and potential conflicts of interest. Correa, known for his millionaire contracts and represented by Boras, emphasized that his priority is to protect his professional career and comply with MLB regulations and his organization.
