Houston Astros Suffer Significant Losses Due to Injuries

SEATTLE. The Houston Astros are facing a considerable challenge in their roster due to a series of injuries affecting key players. The team announced this Monday the inclusion of Dominican shortstop Jeremy Peña on the 10-day injured list, due to a first-degree strain in his right hamstring. In addition, Japanese pitcher Tatsuya Imai was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to arm fatigue.

Peña, who was forced to leave Saturday’s game in the fourth inning due to right knee discomfort, has had a complicated start to the season due to physical problems. Previously, he suffered a fracture in his right ring finger during preparation for the World Baseball Classic.

Imai, for his part, showed difficulties in his last opening on Friday, where he could only get one out. The pitcher allowed four walks, hit a batter, and conceded three runs, evidencing control problems.

Given these absences, the team has made several moves to its roster. Jayden Murray was sent to Triple-A Sugar Land, while J. P. France and Colton Gordon, along with infielder Shay Whitcomb, were called up.

The situation is further complicated for Houston’s pitching staff, as Hunter Brown and Dominican Cristian Javier also went on the injured list last week, both with second-degree shoulder strains. This means that three of the team’s five starters on Opening Day are currently out of action.

These injuries represent a hard blow for the Astros at the start of the season, forcing the team to readjust their rotation and roster depth as they seek to maintain their competitiveness.
