Miami, FL – Major League Baseball announced this Sunday the suspension of the Venezuelan left-handed pitcher of the Philadelphia Phillies, José Alvarado. The penalty is 80 games, during which he will not receive a salary and will be ineligible to participate in the postseason.
This news represents a hard blow for the organization, which harbors ambitions of reaching the World Series and which counted on Alvarado as one of its most outstanding relievers.
According to the press release issued by the league, José Alvarado tested positive for exogenous testosterone, a substance used to enhance athletic performance.
“The Phillies fully support Major League Baseball’s Joint Prevention and Treatment Program and regret today’s news about José’s violation,” the team said in a statement.
