Leones del Escogido Strengthens with Alcides Escobar for the Final Stage
The Leones del Escogido, current national and Caribbean champions, have announced the incorporation of the experienced Venezuelan infielder Alcides Escobar as a key reinforcement for the decisive phase of the tournament. The news was confirmed by the club’s general manager, Carlos Peña. Peña highlighted the importance of Escobar’s arrival, emphasizing his ability to strengthen both the team’s performance and his leadership in the locker room.In his recent participation in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League with the Tiburones de La Guaira during the 2025-26 season, Escobar demonstrated a solid offensive performance, recording a .316 average, a .792 OPS, two home runs, 26 RBIs, 13 doubles, and 24 runs scored in 43 games. Escobar, known for his versatility in the field, can play at third base, shortstop, and second base. His career in the Major Leagues includes 13 seasons, between 2008 and 2019, mainly with the Kansas City Royals, where he was instrumental in winning the 2015 World Series. That same year, he was selected for the All-Star Game and won the Gold Glove. Subsequently, he played with the Washington Nationals in the 2021 and 2022 seasons. In his MLB career, Escobar accumulated a .258 average, with 45 home runs, 478 RBIs, 178 stolen bases, 249 doubles, 58 triples, and 670 runs scored in 1,552 games. Currently, the Leones del Escogido lead the Round Robin with a 7-3 record, tied with the Toros del Este and with a two-game lead over the Águilas Cibaeñas. This Wednesday, they will face the Gigantes del Cibao starting at 7:15 PM at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium.Escobar brings us leadership, experience, and knowledge of the game at the highest level.
