Santiago – The Águilas Cibaeñas have secured the continuity of four key pieces of their native talent, according to the team’s operations management.
The players who renewed are pitchers Junior Fernández, Erick Mejía and Luis González, along with the versatile Alfredo Reyes.
Strengthening Strategy
The organization emphasized that these contract extensions are part of a strategy to strengthen a competitive core. The goal is to combine experience, proven talent, and commitment to the club’s identity for the upcoming season of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League.
Junior Fernández remains a reliable reliever, backed by an outstanding regular season with an ERA of 2.40 and 15 strikeouts in 15 innings.
Erick Mejía continues his development as a power pitcher, reaching speeds exceeding 95 miles per hour. This after his participation in three levels of minor leagues with the Washington Nationals during the summer of 2025.
Luis González, a left-handed pitcher native of Esperanza, establishes himself as a specialist in critical situations, showing an effectiveness of 0.77 and 18 strikeouts in 11.2 innings during the 2024 season.
Alfredo Reyes provides defense and speed, qualities he demonstrated in the last semifinal, where he batted .375 (3 hits in 8 at-bats).
The Eagles’ directive highlighted that these signings go beyond simple administrative moves, representing a direct bet on maintaining the team’s competitiveness.
