Cibao Eagles Defeat Cibao Giants and Maintain Hope in the Round Robin

San Francisco de Macorís – Las Águilas Cibaeñas achieved an important 9-3 victory over the Gigantes del Cibao, a triumph that reinforces their aspirations to advance to the Round Robin final. The match, held at the Julián Javier stadium, was dominated by two impressive four-run rallies that defined the course of the game. With this result, the Eagles place their record at 7-6, tying in the standings with the Toros del Este. There is still one day left to play before the semifinal break, which will begin this Monday and resume on Tuesday. Cuban pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne had a successful debut in the Dominican league, working 5.2 innings and allowing only two runs. Despaigne, who came from the Mexican League, led the Eagles to victory. The Eagles’ offense was led by Cristhian Adames, who hit a solo home run. In addition, Steward Berroa and Ezequiel Durán drove in two runs each.

A Strong Start Defines the Game

The Eagles took control of the game from the first inning, scoring four runs against starting pitcher Bryan Rodríguez. A defensive error opened the doors for this rally. After a ticket to Berroa and an error by the initial baseman Deyvison De los Santos after a hit by Adames, came the productive hits by Jerar Encarnación and the two-run double by Durán, followed by a run-scoring single by Aderlín Rodríguez, establishing a score of 4-0.

Giants Try to React, but the Eagles Respond

The Giants managed to score with a solo home run by Diego Hernandez in the third inning and another run in the sixth, driven in by a single from De los Santos. However, the Eagles thwarted any comeback attempt with another four-run rally in the seventh inning. Adames started with a home run against Luis Frías, and after two outs, consecutive singles by Rodríguez and Ángel Genao forced the pitcher to leave the game. Sebastián Rivero drove in a run with a single and Berroa cleared the bases with a triple, extending the lead to 8-2 and sealing the game.

For the Eagles:

  • Steward Berroa: 5-2, triple, 2 RBI, BB
  • Cristhian Adames: 5-1, HR, 2 R, RBI
  • Ezequiel Durán: 4-1, double, 2 RBI, R
