SAN FRANCISCO – Dominican shortstop Willy Adames has made history with the San Francisco Giants by being the first Dominican player to receive the prestigious Willie Mac Award. This award, which recognizes the most inspiring player in the organization, was announced this Friday in its 45th edition, established in 1980 in honor of the legend and Hall of Fame member, Willie McCovey. The distinction is awarded through voting by players, coaches, clubhouse staff, and team fans.

“This is an honor for me. It means a lot that it comes from my teammates, coaches, and the fans. I am truly grateful,” Adames expressed after receiving the recognition.

Adames, who arrived at the Giants last season with a US$182 million seven-year contract, the largest in franchise history and also the largest awarded to a shortstop in Major League Baseball, has established himself as an undisputed leader. In his first season with San Francisco, the Santiago native has led the team in multiple offensive categories, including games played (158), runs scored (93), home runs (29), RBIs (86), walks (80), and stolen bases (12). His 29 home runs represent the highest figure for a right-handed hitter for the Giants since Jeff Kent hit 37 in 2002.

Adames was also appointed in March as Official Commissioner of the Junior Giants for the Giants Community Fund, strengthening his connection with the community and the legacy of leadership he now shares with McCovey. With this award, Willy Adames reaffirms his immediate impact on the organization and opens a new chapter in the history of Dominican baseball in the Major Leagues.
