Ronald Acuña Jr. Exits Game with Achilles Tendon Discomfort
The Atlanta Braves’ star outfielder, Ronald Acuña Jr., was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Royals due to discomfort in his right Achilles tendon. The 2023 National League Most Valuable Player left Kauffman Stadium limping and wearing a walking boot, showing obvious signs of pain.
Acuña Jr. confirmed that he will be placed on the injured list pending an MRI.
The player expressed his concern: “I think [the Achilles] definitely got worse today.” Acuña Jr. mentioned that he had already felt discomfort the day before when scoring from first base, but insisted on playing on Tuesday.
The situation worsened in the sixth inning, when he showed clear signs of discomfort while trying to field a foul ball and, subsequently, a double by Vinnie Pasquantino. Although he briefly returned to his position, he had to be replaced by Eli White.
The manager Brian Snitker explained that, although the preliminary diagnosis does not point to a break, the team will act with caution.
Snitker added: “The doctor said it would probably be at least 10 days. It’s one of those things you don’t want to risk.”
Acuña, who returned this season on May 23 after recovering from surgery, has had an outstanding performance, batting .306 with 14 home runs and an OPS of 1.006 in 55 games.
The uncertainty about his physical condition generates concern for both the player and the team.
For now, the Braves and their fans await the results of the medical exams to determine the severity of the injury and the estimated recovery time.
