Government Delivers Refurbished Sports Facilities in Dajabón
President Luis Abinader delivered this Sunday two renovated sports facilities in Dajabón, with a total investment of 43.5 million pesos. These improvements will benefit children, youth and adults in various disciplines and genders, strengthening sports and community development in the province. These works are part of the government program for the construction and reconstruction of sports facilities, executed by the Ministry of Sports throughout the country. The municipalities of Dajabón, Partido and Loma de Cabrera will be directly impacted, by having modern facilities for training and competition. These infrastructures will become meeting points for athletes, families, neighborhood associations, churches, and community leaders, strengthening the social fabric and promoting the participation of various productive sectors.Minister Kelvin Cruz explained that, after assuming his position, he realized the deterioration of the Dajabón sports center, which he described as “practically abandoned.” By instructions of the president, a local sports development plan was established, prioritizing the remodeling of the sports center, the construction of a volleyball court and the construction of a clubhouse. The growth of women’s volleyball in the municipality was highlighted, with more than 300 girls practicing this discipline, and it was stated that with the support of the government, responses are given to the needs of hundreds of athletes in the region. The Dajabón sports complex underwent significant improvements, including offices, bathrooms, changing rooms, a cafeteria, and outdoor areas. Repairs were carried out on metal structures, the installation of aluzinc, gutters and downspouts, the construction of a multipurpose hall, and general painting. In addition, a FIBA-approved wooden floor, FIBA scoreboard supports, a digital whiteboard, 24-second clocks, seating, and electrical installations were installed. The investment in these improvements was 32,336,238.94 pesos. The Dajabón Clubhouse and volleyball court were also renovated, with the construction of the court area, a concrete floor, volleyball posts and net, bleachers, the Clubhouse, general painting and electrical installations. The investment in this work was 11,205,197.34 pesos. As a measure to ensure the preservation of the works, the Dominican government established a community volunteer group that will ensure the maintenance and proper use of these sports facilities.The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, highlighted the importance of these improvements and the government’s commitment to local sports development.
