Abinader Inaugurates Sports Complexes in Puerto Plata: Boost for Sports and Youth
Puerto Plata – President Luis Abinader led the inauguration of two covered sports centers in Puerto Plata, marking a milestone in the promotion of sports and youth recreation. The total investment in these infrastructures exceeds RD$76 million, demonstrating the government’s commitment to the integral development of the community. The project includes the covered sports center of the Gustavo Behall Club, with an investment of RD$38,618,916.75, and the multipurpose facility of the Gregorio Luperón Club, which required an investment of RD$37,417,934.96. Both works were executed by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec).During the inaugural event, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kelvin Cruz, highlighted the importance of this investment, considering it a true revolution for sports in Puerto Plata and a clear reflection of support for youth. Cruz pointed out that, thanks to the management of President Abinader, seven sports facilities are being built in the province, with an investment exceeding RD$300 million, thus promoting local sports development. Edgar Mirabel, president of the Gregorio Luperón Club, expressed his gratitude for these new facilities, highlighting the positive impact they will have on the community. Governor Claritza Rochtte also celebrated the inauguration, emphasizing President Abinader’s vision in providing these modern infrastructures. The new facilities feature a metal structure roof, bleachers with seating, offices, locker rooms, and play areas equipped with maple wood flooring certified by FIBA, FIBA boards, a digital whiteboard, and a clock. These works represent a significant advance for sports in the region, fulfilling the aspirations of local sports entities. These buildings are works number 37 and 38 delivered during Cruz’s management at the head of the Sports and Recreation portfolio, thus realizing old dreams of both superior basketball entities and other sports disciplines of the Bride of the Atlantic.“The truth is that President Luis Abinader, when they talk to him about sports and youth, throws the door out the window, because in the capital, to give you just one statistic, in the capital, some RD 300 million are being invested in the construction of sports complexes, and in Puerto Plata the same amount is invested for the benefit of the residents in the Bride of the Atlantic,” emphasized Cruz.
