Abadina brings together former presidents and clubs for the TBS District 2026: 50 years of basketball

Abadina Celebrates Meeting with Former Presidents and Delegates on the Eve of the 2026 Superior Tournament

Santo Domingo, RD. – The Basketball Association of the National District (Abadina), led by Edwin Castillo (Tatico), held a meeting with former presidents and delegates of superior clubs this Thursday. The meeting’s main objective was to finalize details for the Superior Basketball Tournament (TBS Distrito 2026), a significant event that will mark the “Golden Wedding” of the competition, celebrating its 50 years of history. Castillo, after overcoming health problems, resumed his duties at the head of Abadina and led the meeting at the restaurant La Trufa Negra, in the Ensanche Naco. The atmosphere was marked by camaraderie and unity among those present.

Hard work is being done in the organization of the capital contest, preparing an unforgettable moment to celebrate the 50 years of history of the tournament.

The tournament, which began in 1974, will be played in the renovated Virgilio Travieso Soto Arena “BanReservas”. Among the former presidents of Abadina present were Professor Agustín Cortés Robles (1987-1990), José Esteban Borromé (1990-1994), Roberto Ramírez (1997-1999) and Fernando Teruel (2018-2020), current Technical Vice Minister of Sports and Immortal of Sport. Also in attendance were Abadina executives such as Héctor Junior Gil, vice president; José -Boyón- Domínguez, general secretary; Santos María, in press; and members Anthony Fernández and César Pilarte, along with club member Jorge Luis Mercedes. In addition, Commissioner Nelson Ramírez was present; Claudio Méndez, Administrative; sports reporters Américo Celado and Odalis Sánchez, from Communications and Press; magistrate (SCJ) Alejandro Bello; and lawyers Augusto Martínez and Pedro Lara, legal advisors. Among the special guests were Junior Páez, vice president of the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal); congresswoman Melisa Sánchez; former treasurer of Abadina, Milton Díaz; Fernando Geraldino, Social Responsibility manager of the company Seaboard “Energía Limpia”; and former Secretary of Sports Andrés Vanderhorts. The club delegates who attended the meeting were Dimitri Mendoza, from San Lázaro; Agustín Espinoza, from San Carlos; José -Boyón- Domínguez, for Mauricio Báez; Jefry Mercedes, from El Millón; Miguel Merejo, from the Rafael Barias club; Ramón González, from Huellas del Siglo; Pedro Lara, from Bameso; Jorge Ramírez and Kendry Peralta, for Los Prados.
