Aaron Sánchez is Awarded Pitcher of the Year in the LIDOM
Right-handed pitcher Aaron Sánchez, of the Toros del Este, has been recognized as the Pitcher of the Year of the 2025-2026 championship of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). The election was based on an exhaustive vote conducted by a jury of specialized communicators.
Sánchez dominated the vote with 58 of the 69 possible votes for first place, accumulating a total of 441 points. This weighted valuation system assigns seven points to first place, four to second, three to third, two to fourth, and one to fifth.
The contest, dedicated to Mr. Juan Marichal, was played in option to the Banreservas Cup.
In the voting, Óscar De La Cruz, from the Estrellas Orientales, obtained 185 points, followed by J.C. Mejía, from the Tigres del Licey, with 165 points. Joe Corbett (Toros del Este), Patrick Weigel (Estrellas Orientales), and Grant Gavin (Leones del Escogido) also received votes.
At 33 years old, Sanchez had an impressive season. In eight starts, he pitched 46.1 innings, allowing only eight earned runs, with nine walks and 34 strikeouts. He limited the opposition to 35 hits.
His performance translated into a 4-2 record, an ERA of 1.55, and a WHIP of 0.95, leading both departments in the league. In addition, he restricted opposing batters to a .208 batting average. Consistency, game control, and his dominance on the mound were key to obtaining the jury’s support.
The evaluation panel was made up of 69 members, including independent communicators, representatives from press departments and broadcast networks of the teams, Dominican communicators based in the United States, international reporters, and communicators from the provinces.
The provinces represented in the voting process were La Altagracia, El Seibo, María Trinidad Sánchez, Valverde, Puerto Plata, La Vega, Espaillat, Monseñor Nouel, and Peravia, ensuring plurality, regional equity, and transparency in the election.
With this recognition, Aaron Sánchez is consolidated as one of the most outstanding figures of the 2025-2026 LIDOM championship, after an outstanding season with the Toros del Este.
