Weather forecast: Trough and extreme heat dominate the landscape in the Dominican Republic

The Alofoke Deportes weather report indicates that this Thursday the national territory will experience varied weather, marked by the presence of morning showers on the Caribbean coast and convective activity during the afternoon in the Cibao region. The combination of a trough in the upper levels of the troposphere and persistent heat will keep the population on alert.

Precipitation details

During the early hours of the day, rains will mainly affect the provinces of San Cristóbal, Greater Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, and La Altagracia. As the day progresses, the development of a trough will favor local downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and possible wind gusts, concentrating especially in Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde, and Dajabón.

In the rest of the country, a mostly sunny environment will be observed, although with a grayish hue due to the presence of suspended Saharan dust particles.

Recommendations for high temperatures

The heat continues to be the main feature, with maximum temperatures that will range between 33 °C and 35 °C. Given this scenario, meteorological authorities reiterate the following prevention recommendations:

  • Maintain constant hydration throughout the day.
  • Wear light-colored, lightweight clothing.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure, especially during peak radiation hours.
  • Pay special attention to children, pregnant women, and the elderly, who are the groups most vulnerable to heatstroke.

The provinces of Santiago, La Vega, Monte Cristi, Azua, and San Juan will record the most critical values, potentially reaching maximums of up to 37 °C.

Weekend outlook

For this Friday, an increase in the concentration of Saharan dust is expected, which, added to an anticyclonic system, will reduce the chances of rain, maintaining an opaque and hazy sky in most of the national territory.

However, Saturday marks a change in the atmospheric pattern with the approach of a tropical wave. Passing showers are expected, starting in La Altagracia, El Seibo, and La Romana, subsequently extending towards the southeast, the Central Mountain Range, and the border area with light to moderate intensity showers.
