U.S. Ambassador warns about consequences of birth tourism and visa misuse

The United States Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Leah F. Campos, has issued a strong warning directed at Dominican citizens regarding the correct use of U.S. visas. The diplomat emphasized the importance of acting with transparency and honesty throughout the entire application process and the subsequent use of immigration documents.

One of the central points of her speech was the call to avoid the practice known as birth tourism. According to the ambassador, traveling with the specific purpose of giving birth on U.S. soil to obtain citizenship for the child compromises the integrity of her country’s immigration system.

Strict measures against immigration fraud

Campos was clear in pointing out that U.S. authorities are tightening controls to protect their laws. In this regard, she warned that legal consequences will not only fall on those who use their visas for purposes other than those authorized, but also on other actors involved:

  • Intermediaries who promote or facilitate these types of fraudulent practices.
  • Medical providers or institutions that actively collaborate in birth tourism.
  • Organizers who encourage non-compliance with current immigration regulations.

Under the leadership of President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, we are taking new measures to protect our laws and our immigration system. Be honest during your visa process and use your visa for the purpose for which it was granted.

Leah F. Campos, United States Ambassador.

This pronouncement is part of a broader policy to strengthen border control and surveillance in compliance with immigration regulations. The embassy reiterates that transparency is the fundamental pillar for maintaining immigration privileges, urging applicants to provide truthful information to avoid sanctions that could affect their status or future applications for entry into the United States.
