Indomet warns of heavy downpours and maintains alert levels in the country

The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has issued a report on current atmospheric conditions, which will remain unstable due to the influence of a trough linked to the remnants of former Tropical Storm Dolly. This phenomenon will continue to cause moderate to heavy downpours, accompanied by electrical activity and wind gusts across much of the national territory.

Provinces under surveillance

Rainfall will have a significant impact on various districts. Among the areas with the highest probability of rain are:

  • Hato Mayor, Monte Plata and San Pedro de Macorís.
  • Greater Santo Domingo and San Cristóbal.
  • Peravia, Puerto Plata, Monte Cristi and Espaillat.
  • Santiago, Monseñor Nouel, Duarte and La Vega.
  • Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, Elías Piña, Barahona, Azua, Pedernales, Baoruco, San Juan and Valverde.

Given this scenario, Indomet maintains current meteorological alert and warning levels. Citizens are warned about the latent risk of flooding in rivers, streams, and ravines, as well as the possibility of flash floods in vulnerable areas. Residents near bodies of water are advised to stay alert to official reports.

It is essential that the population takes the necessary precautions and follows the guidelines of emergency agencies in the face of the risk of floods and landslides.

Forecast for this Wednesday

Atmospheric instability will persist throughout Wednesday. From early hours, isolated showers are expected in La Altagracia, Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez, Peravia, San Cristóbal, and Barahona. As the afternoon progresses, daytime heating and orographic effects will enhance more intense downpours with thunderstorms in the northeast, southeast, and northwest regions, the Central Mountain Range, and the border area.

In the National District and the municipalities of Santo Domingo, an increase in cloudiness with rain and thunderstorms is expected. Temperatures will remain high, with minimums ranging between 24 °C and 26 °C, while maximums will reach levels between 34 °C and 36 °C.

Tropical Storm Edouard situation

Regarding cyclonic activity in the Atlantic, the agency reported on the evolution of tropical depression number five into tropical storm Edouard. Currently, this system is located south-southeast of Cameron, Louisiana, with sustained winds of 65 km/h. Due to its trajectory and current location, Indomet confirmed that this phenomenon does not pose any danger to the Dominican Republic.
