Man arrested in Valencia with more than 8 kilos of liquid cocaine from Santo Domingo
A 51-year-old Spanish citizen was arrested at the airport in Valencia, Spain, after being caught attempting to bring into the country a shipment of liquid cocaine hidden in various personal hygiene product containers. The individual arrived in Spanish territory on a flight from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The operation, carried out by the Tax Agency and the Civil Guard, allowed for the seizure of 8.2 kilograms of the illicit substance. The discovery occurred when the subject, after declaring that he had no items to report to Customs, was subjected to a routine X-ray inspection, where authorities detected irregularities in the density of his checked luggage.
A sophisticated concealment method
During the detailed inspection of the suitcases, the agents discovered that the shampoo bottles had been strategically altered to evade security checks. The mechanism consisted of a double bottom or reservoir that contained real shampoo in the upper part, designed to deceive at first glance and pass superficial inspections.
Upon delving into the search, the officers found that the rest of the container was filled with a whitish liquid with an intense chemical odor. After applying the corresponding narcotest tests, the result confirmed that it was liquid cocaine.
The detainee attempted to camouflage the drugs by using a surface layer of cosmetic product, but the precision of the X-ray equipment allowed for the dismantling of this attempt to traffic controlled substances.
Legal consequences
Following the confirmation of the discovery, the man was taken into custody on charges of crimes against public health. The competent authorities, after presenting the gathered evidence, succeeded in having a judge order the imprisonment of the individual while investigations continue.
The judicial file of the case has been referred to the Court of First Instance of Quart de Poblet, where the corresponding criminal proceedings for this attempted international smuggling will be carried out.
