Tragedy in San Luis: Mechanic loses his life after tree collapse
A regrettable incident shook the Viejo Ingenio Ozama sector in the municipal district of San Luis, Santo Domingo Este, this Friday, after the collapse of a large tree branch claimed the life of a worker and left several people injured.
The victim was identified as Rolfi Yoandi González Fabián, 35, popularly known in the community as “Andy.” The young man was performing his usual duties at a mechanical workshop when the tree structure suddenly gave way, impacting the establishment where he had been operating for years.
Medical attention and rescue efforts
Following the incident, emergency teams provided first aid to the injured, who were rushed to the Dr. Ney Arias Lora Trauma Hospital. So far, authorities have not disclosed the identities of those affected or their current clinical status.
For its part, the San Luis Municipal District Fire Department arrived at the scene to carry out removal work. Using specialized equipment, the rescuers proceeded to cut and remove the remains of the tree to clear the area and ensure the safety of nearby residents.
The passing of González Fabián has caused deep dismay in the area. Neighbors and loved ones remember him as an exemplary young man, dedicated to his trade and highly appreciated by those who shared his day-to-day life.
Community demands preventive measures
Given the magnitude of what occurred, the residents of the sector made an urgent call to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. The community’s request focuses on the following points:
- Technical assessment of large trees in the Viejo Ingenio Ozama area.
- Professional pruning interventions to mitigate risks from future weather phenomena.
- Implementation of a preventive plan to prevent other trees in poor condition from posing a danger to citizens.
Local authorities have expressed their condolences to the family of González Fabián, while investigations continue to clarify the exact causes that led to the collapse of the branch.
