Road tragedy in Cabrera: Two dead after accident on the Nagua-Cabrera highway
The Colorado community of Caño Azul, in the municipality of Cabrera, is in shock following a fatal traffic accident recorded this Saturday night. The incident, which occurred on the road section connecting Nagua to Río San Juan, claimed the lives of two men instantly.
One of the fatalities was identified as Omar Santo Acevedo, a young resident of the Payita community. Acevedo was widely recognized in his sector for his work ethic, working at a gas station and as the owner of a small grocery store located in front of the local court. Those close to him described him as a serious, dedicated person who was well-loved by his neighbors.
The second deceased was preliminarily identified by the nickname “El Pollo.” According to preliminary reports, the man was on his way to pick up his wife from her workplace at the time of the impact. Regarding the latter’s partner, it was reported that she was taken to a hospital in La Vega, where she is receiving medical attention and is reported to be in stable condition, with a prognosis of being discharged soon.
Concern about road safety in the area
This event has raised alarms among the inhabitants and frequent users of this road, who report a worrying increase in accident rates. Community members claim that this incident adds to two other similar accidents reported in the same area over the last few days.
It is imperative that the competent authorities, specifically DIGESETT and the Ministry of Public Works and Communications, intervene in this section with urgent preventive measures, such as improving street lighting and repairing the potholes that put drivers’ lives at risk.
