Blow to illicit trade: Thousands of cigarettes seized in La Vega

In a strategic operation carried out in the municipality of Jima Abajo, La Vega province, authorities managed to dismantle an illegal merchandise storage site. The National Police, working in conjunction with the Public Ministry, seized thousands of cigarettes of various brands that lacked the necessary legal documentation for their commercialization.

Detained during the raids

As a result of the interventions, the authorities arrested Angeny Rosario, known in the area as “El Gordo.” The individual was taken into immediate custody to answer to the competent authorities for his alleged link to the distribution and commercialization of illicit products.

Operation details

The operation was carried out by agents of the Regional Intelligence Sub-directorate (Dintel) of La Vega, supported by units of the Preventive Police. The deployment was conducted in compliance with judicial orders numbers 2026-AJ0076253 and 2026-AJ0076254, which allowed for the inspection of the residences where the merchandise was being hidden.

Intelligence, monitoring, and combat operations against illegal trade will continue rigorously throughout the demarcation to ensure compliance with commercial regulations and protect public health.

Following the discovery, both the detainee and the thousands of seized cigarettes were transported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office headquarters. There, the investigative process will continue, and the corresponding legal actions will be taken as stipulated by law.
