Million-dollar settlement: The Walking Dead producers end legal dispute against AMC
After an intense legal battle that lasted for nine years, the producers of the hit series The Walking Dead have reached a definitive agreement with the AMC network. The litigation, centered on the dispute over profits generated by the franchise, concluded with a financial compensation of 120 million dollars in favor of the plaintiffs.
According to the information filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the payment will be executed in two strategic stages. The first part consists of $85 million in cash, with a deadline of September 18, 2026, while the remaining $35 million will be settled by January 31, 2027.
This final payment will be provided as an advance against future profit participation related to The Walking Dead and the spin-off series Fear The Walking Dead.
The origin of the conflict
The dispute, resolved amicably on September 4th, had its roots in the accusations filed by the series creator, Robert Kirkman, along with other producers. In the lawsuit, it was alleged that the television network had hidden profits and failed to meet its contractual obligations to the creative team responsible for one of the most profitable and long-running projects in television history.
Legal background of the franchise
This settlement is not the first major one for the network regarding this production. Alofoke Deportes recalls that, in 2021, the company had already paid out $200 million to resolve a similar lawsuit involving director Frank Darabont and his talent agency. With this new agreement, AMC seeks to put an end to the legal conflicts that have surrounded its flagship franchise over the last decade.
