Samuel Sena reveals the strategy behind RD Debate: balance between knowledge and media reach
The president of the Economic and Social Development Council (CODES) and founder of the RD Debate platform, Samuel Sena, offered details on the criteria that define the selection of its panelists. With the goal of transforming topics of national interest into accessible conversations, the organization is committed to a strategic mix between technical rigor and the convening power of media figures.
During his intervention on the radio show Politikal, Sena stressed that the great challenge of this initiative is to ensure that complex analyses manage to connect with the common citizen. According to the executive, focusing solely on high-level academic profiles does not always guarantee that the message will permeate the mass audience, a key factor for the social impact of these meetings.
The formula for success: combining experts with figures of impact
To structure the debate panels, the CODES technical team, in conjunction with its collaborators, meticulously analyzes the profiles of each speaker. The intention is clear: to confront conceptual depth with personalities who possess a direct connection with the audience.
I am one of those who advocates for having heavyweight professionals, but on the other hand, I have to have enough wisdom to listen and say: if what you want is for it to reach people, there are certain individuals who, even if they are the non plus ultra of the subject, no one will listen to. You have to mix the technician with the well-known.

This methodology has already been successfully implemented in discussions on transcendental topics such as the Penal Code and mental health. In these forums, jurists and doctors with extensive academic backgrounds were integrated with communicators and professionals with great influence in the media, achieving a dynamic and enriching format.
Democratizing ideas to strengthen democracy
The fundamental purpose of RD Debate is to move away from hermetic circles and bring critical issues such as social security, the cost of electricity, and educational quality into the public debate. The goal is to simplify the language without losing the technical essence of the issues.
- Promote plain language to facilitate citizen understanding.
- Foster a culture of constant debate in the Dominican Republic.
- Strengthen the democratic system through informed participation.
Sena concluded that the greater the frequency and diversity of these debates, the more positive the result will be for the strengthening of society, encouraging Dominicans to become more involved in building solutions for the country.
