Ricky Martin returns to acting in Spanish with the movie Overboard
The renowned Puerto Rican artist Ricky Martin marks his long-awaited return to Spanish-language acting with the film Overboard, a production directed by and starring the Mexican actor Gael García Bernal. In addition to his role in front of the cameras, Martin has taken on a key role as an executive producer on this project.
Martin’s integration into the cast was kept under wraps during the filming that took place in Mérida, Yucatán. The singer joined the team shortly before filming began, marking his first role entirely in our language after more than twenty years of a career focused mainly on international productions in English.
A plot between drama and surrealism
The story of Hombre al Agua centers on Camilo, a Cuban lifeguard played by García Bernal, who rescues a Mexican businessman with political ambitions. After this event, Camilo is taken to Mexico to become the businessman’s right-hand man, subsequently marrying his daughter. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when he discovers realities different from those he imagined.
In this context, Ricky Martin brings to life Roby, an actor hired to portray Camilo in a biographical film. As revealed by García Bernal himself, the Puerto Rican was his first choice for the character, managing to secure his participation after a direct proposal before the start of filming.
With ‘Hombre al Agua’, Ricky Martin returns to his acting career in Spanish, adding to his experience a fundamental role in executive production alongside an international-caliber cast.

The cast of this comedy-drama features prominent figures such as Esmeralda Pimentel, Débora Nascimento, Natalia Oreiro, Anna Díaz, Manuel García Rulfo, and Jorge Salinas. The film is produced by La Corriente del Golfo, the company owned by Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna.
