Relatives of couple murdered in Constanza demand speed in the investigation

Constanza remains on edge following the demand for justice by the loved ones of Luis Batista and María Magdalena Páez, the couple who lost their lives in a tragic event that occurred in Tireo. In a recent demonstration in front of the local Prosecutor’s Office, the relatives demanded the appointment of a new prosecutor to expedite the investigative process, which, as they claim, has remained stagnant for the last eight months.

The victims’ relatives expressed their deep concern regarding the lack of significant progress. Although they acknowledged the technical work carried out by the agents of the Central Directorate of Investigation (DICRIM), they pointed directly to the Constanza Prosecutor’s Office for an alleged slowness and lack of transparency in the handling of the case file.

They demand attention from higher authorities

During the protest, those affected pointed to prosecutor Ricardo Pérez, who is responsible for the case, alluding to an apparent lack of interest in the progress of the investigations. According to the protesters, access to information regarding the status of the investigations has been extremely limited, which has generated an atmosphere of frustration and distrust in the community.

We strongly urge President Luis Abinader and the Attorney General of the Republic, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, to intervene in this case. We need a new prosecutor who will work hand-in-hand with security agencies to finally clarify what happened to Luis and María Magdalena.

Relatives and loved ones of the victims

So far, neither the aforementioned prosecutor nor the Constanza Prosecutor’s Office has issued an official statement responding to the complaints filed by the family members. Meanwhile, the community of Constanza joins this call for justice, hoping that the case will not be forgotten and that those responsible for this tragedy that has marked the Tireo area will be identified.
