Raquel Peña urges Dominican society to protect children following case in Haina
The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, spoke out regarding the recent rescue of minors in Haina, describing the event as a regrettable incident. The official emphasized that these types of situations require the immediate attention of all sectors of society to safeguard the fundamental rights of children and adolescents in the country.
Currently, investigations into this case are being led by the Attorney General’s Office and the National Council for Children and Adolescents (Conani). Peña assured that the authorities are working to clarify the facts and ensure that the necessary measures are applied.

Call for citizen reporting
The vice president made a direct call to the citizenry not to be indifferent to irregularities that occur in their communities. According to Peña, citizen surveillance is key to preventing risk situations, urging neighbors to report any suspicious behavior in nearby establishments.
“Even if one is a neighbor of such a center, one must report it or check what is happening and not feel apathetic toward these issues that are so important, so painful,” the vice president pointed out, reaffirming that the protection of childhood is a collective responsibility.
Dominican Republic joins the Geneva Consensus
On another note, Peña highlighted the recent accession of the Dominican Republic to the Geneva Consensus Declaration, becoming the 42nd nation to join this international agreement. During an event led by the United States Ambassador, Leah F. Campos, the official emphasized the relevance of this alliance.
