The Queens of the Caribbean start their Norceca title defense with authority
The women’s national volleyball team, known globally as the Queens of the Caribbean, began their participation in the Norceca Qualifying Championship with a resounding victory. The Dominican squad defeated Costa Rica in straight sets, making it clear from the very first moment that their goal is to retain the regional title.
The match, which was carried out with absolute superiority by the Dominican team, concluded with partials of 25-11, 25-11, and 25-10. The intensity of the Dominican team was such that the game ended in just 54 minutes of play, demonstrating a technical and physical level far superior to that of their rival.
Offensive dominance and individual brilliance
Although the coaching staff opted to rest most of their starting players, the team’s young talent shone through. Flormarie Heredia led the offense with an outstanding performance, accumulating 18 points, all of them through accurate attacks.
- Alondra Tapia scored 16 points, standing out with 11 attacks, one block, and four service aces.
- Massiel Matos contributed 14 units, distributed between 10 attacks and four direct points from the service line.
- Geraldine González was a key piece in net defense, recording five blocks and totaling nine points.
The statistical superiority was evident: the Dominican Republic dominated 44-12 in attacks, achieved 14 direct service points against none from the Costa Ricans, and outperformed their rivals 6-2 in blocks.
Next challenge on the calendar
On behalf of the Costa Rican representation, María del Sol Venegas was the most outstanding with just five points. The Dominican victory was sealed symbolically with a service ace by Yaneiris Rodríguez, which closed the third set with a score of 25-10.
Following this successful debut, the Queens of the Caribbean are preparing for their next match in the tournament. The Dominican team will face Cuba this Saturday, August 22, in a duel scheduled for 8:30 at night, where they will seek to remain undefeated and advance firmly toward the next phase.
