Public Prosecutor’s Office to archive case of alleged sexual assault at UTESA after it was proven to be fabricated
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has decided to proceed with the definitive archiving of the case file related to an alleged gang sexual assault involving the Technological University of Santiago (UTESA). After an exhaustive investigation, the authorities confirmed that the reported events never occurred and that the story was fabricated by the young woman herself who made the accusation.
The scoop was revealed on Alofoke Deportes, where it was detailed that, after analyzing the interrogation records and the evidence collected by the prosecutor’s office, it was concluded that the minor invented the event to avoid family retaliation for arriving home late, in addition to harboring unfounded fears regarding her partner’s legal situation.
Contradictions and research findings
Social alarm was initially triggered when the version spread that a 17-year-old student had been kidnapped and assaulted in the vicinity of the university campus. However, upon initiating the investigation, the narrative began to present severe inconsistencies:
- UTESA’s security cameras did not record any suspicious movement or the presence of the young woman in the described areas.
- Geolocation tracking of the minor’s mobile device revealed that, during the time of her alleged disappearance, she was at her romantic partner’s home.
- The young woman’s boyfriend, a 20-year-old security guard, presented records from transportation apps and WhatsApp conversations that confirmed they were both together consensually.
I had all my clothes on, I was fully dressed, I didn’t have anything, but I don’t know where my mother got the idea that I was raped, I truly don’t know what it was that she interpreted.
Statement of the young woman to the Public Prosecutor’s Office
The outcome of the case
During the interrogation process, the young woman admitted that her belongings were intact and that she did not suffer any type of physical assault. When confronted, she clarified that the version of a rape was a misinterpretation by her mother, who, after not knowing her daughter’s whereabouts, assumed she had been the victim of a crime and proceeded to file a formal complaint with the authorities.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office, upon corroborating that no crime had occurred, notified those involved of the formal closure of the case file. This case has generated a call to attention from authorities and communicators regarding the negative impact caused by false reports, which not only mobilize state resources unnecessarily but also affect the credibility of future reports from real victims of violence.
