The PT requests an investigation into alleged foreign funding of Flávio Bolsonaro’s campaign
The Workers’ Party (PT), the political force led by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has formalized a request before the Supreme Court of Brazil to initiate an exhaustive investigation into possible foreign funding for the candidacy of Flávio Bolsonaro, a representative of the Liberal Party (PL).
The main objective of the request is for the Federal Police to clarify whether there were economic resources or services from abroad that benefited the campaign of former President Jair Bolsonaro’s son. To date, no conclusive evidence has been presented to confirm the receipt of funds by the entities mentioned in the complaint.
Key points of the requested research
- Links to Rockbridge Network: The PT has requested an investigation into whether organizations such as the Rockbridge Network, a U.S. group co-founded by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, have participated in logistical or financial support for the candidacy.
- Undeclared content: The ruling party questions the dissemination of documentaries and courses produced by Brasil Paralelo and Estúdio Quinto Elemento, which were allegedly distributed through Liberal Party platforms without being registered as campaign expenses, linking them to foreign companies such as Patristica Invest LLC and Zeitgeist MKM Corp.
- Social media advertising: A series of paid posts on the social network X has been placed under scrutiny, where foreign profiles promoted the rise of Flávio Bolsonaro on the betting platform Polymarket. According to the PT, at least 11 active accounts were identified between September 18 and 21.
The ruling party maintains that the quotes reflected on platforms such as Polymarket should not be interpreted as electoral polls and seeks to determine the origin, scope, and cost of the digital advertising used to influence public perception.
Political context and electoral regulations
This legal action is taking place within the framework of the electoral race for the 2026 general elections. Brazilian legislation is strict regarding transparency and accountability, requiring that all resources allocated to campaigns be duly reported to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
The PT argues that these regulations should be used as a tool to curb any attempt at foreign interference that seeks to distort the Brazilian democratic process. In parallel, political tension has escalated, as Flávio Bolsonaro’s legal team has requested that the Electoral Justice prohibit Lula from using fragments of his speech before the United Nations General Assembly in his political propaganda, alleging that the president took advantage of the international forum to address local campaign issues.
The Workers’ Party’s request is now in the hands of the competent authorities, who must determine whether there are sufficient grounds to open a formal investigative process and assign responsibilities.
