Samaná is projected as a benchmark for sustainable and cruise tourism

The province of Samaná is heading towards a stage of significant transformation, consolidating its position as a key destination for sustainable tourism in the Dominican Republic. During the 11th Annual Meeting for the Tourism Development of Samaná, held in Puerto Bahía, authorities and sector leaders analyzed the positive impact that the cruise industry projects for regional economic growth.

The provincial governor, Teodora Mullix, highlighted during her speech the strategic support of President Luis Abinader and the Minister of Tourism, David Collado. According to the official, joint efforts are focused on promoting initiatives that guarantee balanced development, where economic progress is closely linked to the well-being of local communities.

Impact of the new terminal in Arroyo Barril

One of the central points of the meeting was the analysis of the new Port Samaná cruise terminal, located in the municipal district of Arroyo Barril. With an opening date scheduled for November 24, 2026, this project is seen as a driver of commercial revitalization that promises to open new doors to the productive sectors of the area.

The main challenge is to ensure that tourism development translates into direct benefits for the merchants, transporters, and entrepreneurs who make up the value chain of our province.

A comprehensive tourism model

The event, organized by the Samaná Tourism Cluster (CTS) and the Association of Hotels and Tourism Enterprises of Samaná (AHETSA), under the slogan “Samaná, sailing towards a new era,” emphasized the need for coordinated work between the public and private sectors. The key points discussed were:

  • Strengthening the tourism offer through strategic projects.
  • Preservation of natural resources as a pillar of the sustainable model.
  • Generation of new sources of employment for citizens.
  • Promotion of private investment to boost local infrastructure.

Through these actions, Samaná is preparing to take advantage of the boom in cruise passenger arrivals, ensuring that the sector’s expansion is inclusive and sustainable, allowing the wealth generated by tourism to be distributed equitably throughout Samaná society.
