Justice in Azua: Man sent to prison for sexual assault against a minor
The Permanent Attention Court of Azua has ordered three months of preventive detention against Dalcio Nico Méndez Guerrero, who faces serious accusations of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl. The measure was imposed following the request presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which seeks to ensure that the accused complies with the ongoing judicial process.
The case began following the formal complaint filed by the victim’s father with the Gender and Intrafamily Violence Unit of the Azua Prosecutor’s Office. During the hearing, prosecutor Nelia Melo Mejía argued that the accused lacks the necessary ties to receive a less burdensome coercive measure than prison, underscoring the gravity of the facts.
Case details
According to the investigation, the incident occurred on August 22. It is alleged that Méndez Guerrero took advantage of the trust he had with the minor’s family and the fact that she was unsupervised in the yard of her residence to perpetrate the abuse.
The authorities have confirmed that there is compelling evidence, including security camera footage installed in the vicinity of the incident, that supports the accusation against the defendant.
Furthermore, during professional evaluations, the minor revealed that this was not an isolated incident, but that she had allegedly been a victim of previous assaults in 2025. According to the testimonies, the aggressor allegedly used death threats to keep the girl silent.
