Capital sentence: Television presenter Sarah Khalifa sentenced to death in Egypt
An Egyptian court has handed down a death sentence by hanging against renowned television presenter Sarah Khalifa and 11 others involved. The court found them guilty of leading and operating a criminal network dedicated to the manufacturing and trafficking of synthetic narcotics, a case that has shocked public opinion.
The investigation, which culminated in the ruling this Saturday, allowed authorities to seize more than 750 kilograms of illicit substances, in addition to various materials used for their processing. According to the judicial report, the organization had a hierarchical structure where specific roles were divided for the import of supplies, production in clandestine laboratories, and final distribution.
A media profile linked to crime
Sarah Khalifa, 39, enjoyed a significant career in Egyptian media. She was the host of the program “Mission Impossible,” a television show focused on security and crime issues, a facet that contrasts drastically with the crimes for which she has been convicted. In addition to her work in television, Khalifa is an entrepreneur in the aesthetic surgery and event planning sector, maintaining an active digital presence with more than 2.5 million followers.

The sentence was handed down following the mandatory consultation with the Grand Mufti of Egypt, an indispensable procedural step in local legislation to confirm capital sentences.
Judicial process details
The legal process involved a total of 28 people, with diverse results for each of those prosecuted:
- 12 people, including Sarah Khalifa, were sentenced to death by hanging.
- 9 defendants received a life sentence.
- 7 individuals were acquitted of all charges.
In addition to crimes against public health, those involved were charged with the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The prosecution based its accusation on the testimony of 20 people and compelling digital evidence, which included photographic and audiovisual records, as well as conversations documenting the network’s logistics.
Despite the overwhelming evidence presented by the authorities, Sarah Khalifa has systematically denied her involvement in the events. During the proceedings, the communicator alleged that she had never been in contact with narcotics until the moment she was photographed with them at the anti-narcotics facilities following her arrest in Cairo, which occurred in April 2025.
