Tension in Navarrete: Social organizations distance themselves from shooting during police visit
The Che Guevara Popular Front and the April 24th Movement have issued official statements following the incident recorded in Navarrete during a supervision tour by the Director General of the National Police, Major General Andrés Modesto Cruz Cruz. The social groups categorically denied having any prior knowledge of the shooting that occurred while the high-ranking police official was passing through the area.
Aderlin Núñez, spokesperson for the Che Guevara movement, confirmed that the organizations were aware of the police director’s presence in the municipality; however, he denied any involvement or information regarding the armed confrontation that occurred near the free trade zone. According to the leader, this violent event was not part of the protest agenda called by the popular organizations.
Social and popular organizations knew that the police director was in the municipality, but we reject that we were aware that the shootout recorded in the vicinity of the free trade zone would occur.

Possible extension of the strike in Navarrete
The situation in Navarrete remains tense. Popular leaders have issued a stern warning to government authorities: if concrete solutions to the community’s demands are not presented in the coming hours, the work stoppage, originally scheduled for 48 hours, will be extended for an additional 24 hours.
- The movement has urged residents to stock up on basic goods and food given the high probability of an extension to the strike.
- The goal of this pressure measure is to combat what the organizers have described as a marked indifference on the part of officials toward local issues.
Meanwhile, the municipality remains under a strict security deployment. A mixed contingent of the National Police and the Armed Forces remains stationed at strategic points in Navarrete, in order to preserve public order and guarantee traffic safety during the development of the demonstration.
