Blow to vehicle theft in Santiago: Police recover various motor vehicles and make key arrests
In a series of strategic operations and intelligence work, the National Police managed to recover three vehicles and five motorcycles that had been reported stolen in the province of Santiago. These actions, carried out by the Stolen Vehicle Investigation Division, also led to the arrest of several individuals involved in illicit activities related to the theft of means of transport.
Recovery details
Among the vehicles located, units of various makes and models stand out, which were recovered after meticulous tracking by the agents:
- Kia K5 (Gray, license plate A894932): Reported stolen on May 28, 2024, it was located in the Gurabo sector via the GPS tracking system. One person was detained for investigation purposes.
- Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ 4X4 (Black): Located in an abandoned state after being stolen from a residence in Jacagua Arriba. Authorities confirmed that the vehicle still contained its owners’ belongings inside.
- Toyota Sienna (Year 2002, license plate 1047012): Recovered this past August 24, this vehicle had a theft report filed since December 2022.
Additionally, the police deployment allowed for the recovery of five motorcycles of various brands, whose theft reports span a period from the year 2013 to 2026, demonstrating the effectiveness of the controls in the area.
Legal actions and detainees
During the operations in Navarrete, agents caught Manuel Alcántara Pérez, known as “El Chirito,” 27 years old, in the act while he was attempting to steal a Honda C-70 motorcycle. On the other hand, Julio César Polanco Reyes, 41 years old, was apprehended under a judicial warrant for his alleged connection to the theft of a Chrysler 300 vehicle.
The National Police reaffirms its commitment to maintaining intelligence and prevention efforts to combat vehicle theft, ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice and the assets are returned to their rightful owners.

All those detained, along with the collected evidence, were handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to proceed with the corresponding legal requirements. The authorities have stated that they will continue these operations constantly to reduce automotive crime rates throughout the region.
