PLD deputies advocate for party unity following suspension of presidential consultation
In a call for internal cohesion, congresspeople from the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) have spoken out regarding the recent decision to suspend the presidential aspirant consultation that was scheduled for next October 18th. Legislators Mayobanex Martínez, Ydenia Doñé, and Nelson Saulo Vega emphasized the importance of prioritizing the strengthening of the party structure with a view toward the 2028 elections.
Mayobanex Martínez highlighted the work of the Organizing Commission (CONAP-2026) and defended the measure as an act of prudence. According to the legislator, the lack of technical equipment requested from the Central Electoral Board (JCE) and the absence of a full consensus among the pre-candidates made the process unfeasible under current conditions. Martínez ruled out that this situation would lead to a crisis, assuring that the PLD is a mature political organization.
The PLD is mature and the chairs have never been in the Dominican Liberation Party. The chairs are in other sectors and in other areas. We use the chairs to sit on.

Differences in criteria and institutional compliance
For her part, the spokesperson for the PLD deputies’ bloc, Ydenia Doñé, admitted that the decision generates mixed feelings, especially due to the proximity of the scheduled date. However, she stressed that respect for institutionalism must prevail over the individual opinions of its members.
- Doñé urged the candidates to maintain their political projects without neglecting the collective well-being of the party.
- He stressed that any internal debate must be channeled through the corresponding bodies of the purple organization.
- He reiterated the militants’ commitment to party discipline, even though the organizational work was already advanced.
Criticism of the Central Electoral Board
Deputy Nelson Saulo Vega described the suspension as a Solomonic and necessary measure to avoid questioning the legitimacy of the process. In that sense, he questioned the JCE’s stance in not providing the requested technical support, comparing this refusal with the collaboration provided in previous internal processes.
The Organizing Committee has reiterated that, despite this pause, the process for the selection of the presidential candidacy will be carried out in accordance with the established legal deadlines, formally beginning in July 2027 under the coordination of the electoral body.
