Fedom announces the 6th U6 National Championship dedicated to Welington Castillo
The Dominican Baseball Federation (Fedom) kicked off its development tournament calendar for the 2026 season, confirming the celebration of the 6th U6 National Championship, which will bear the name of the “Frank Camilo” category. In this edition, the tournament will be dedicated to the prominent former Major League player and current member of the national team’s coaching staff, Welington Castillo.
The sporting event, designed to promote baseball among 5 and 6-year-old children, will take place this Sunday, August 23rd. The opening day will begin at 9:00 in the morning at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center facilities, with Play Number 3 “Héctor Tito Pereyra” being the main stage for the activities.
Welington Castillo is an icon for the Dominican Republic; he is one of those people who serves as an example to follow for children, young people, and also for adults. On and off the field, he has proven to be a leader who has very high values to exhibit for everyone.

This edition marks a milestone for Fedom, bringing together a total of 528 children distributed across 33 teams from various parts of the country. This level of participation reflects the success of the development programs that the institution promotes annually alongside the U8 and U10 tournaments, consolidating the growth of youth baseball throughout the national territory.

The realization of this championship has the institutional support of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec), the State Economic Canteens, and the Panorama Media Group, entities that reaffirm their commitment to grassroots sports in the Dominican Republic.
