Team Liga Pichulo and Team División Atlántica are crowned champions in the DPK Interleague Tournament
The excitement of youth baseball was experienced to the fullest at La Javilla Academy, where the Team Liga Pichulo and Team División Atlántica teams took top honors in their respective categories after an intense day of finals in the Dominican Prospect Kids (DPK) Interleague Winter Baseball Tournament.
Atlantic Division dominates the children’s category
In a decisive duel for the 11 and 12-year-old category, Team Atlantic Division demonstrated its superiority by prevailing 8-3 against Team Liga Cornielle. Pitcher Chandel Cruz was the key figure of the match, throwing five and one-third innings of work, where he allowed three runs and struck out six opponents to claim the victory.
The offense was backed by Cruz himself, who went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Andri Medina contributed two crucial RBIs to secure the championship.
For the Cornielle League as a whole, the effort was not enough despite the outstanding performances of Alberni Rosario and Luis Torres, who tried to keep their team in the fight until the last out.
Liga Pichulo prevails in the pre-infant category
On the other hand, in the pre-infant category (9-10 years old), Team Liga Pichulo was crowned champion after authoritatively defeating Team División Norte 9-2 at the Juan J. Carmona stadium. The victory was led from the mound by Yadier Hidalgo, who dominated for five and two-thirds innings, limiting his opponents to a single run and striking out six.
- Jeison Cordero led the monarchs’ offensive attack with a solid 3-for-2 performance, including two RBIs.
- Julián Montaño also stood out by hitting a key double that produced two runs for the winning cause.
- For the North Division, the efforts of Ángel Hernández and Wilkin Valdez were unable to reverse the adverse score.
The DPK Interleague Winter Baseball Tournament activity keeps its schedule underway and the actions will continue to unfold at the La Javilla Academy facilities this coming Wednesday, where young talent will continue to demonstrate their potential on the playing field.
