The Tumbes region, located on the northern border with Ecuador, has reached a historic milestone by recording a temperature of 36.5 degrees Celsius. This value, detected at the El Salto military detachment in the Zarumilla district, exceeds the area’s usual averages by 9.5 degrees, setting a new thermal ceiling that surpasses the figures reached during last year’s climate event.

  • Piura: In Lancones, 35 degrees were reported on September 5th, leaving behind the mark of 34.6 degrees established in 2019.
  • Lima: The capital has also felt the intensity of the heat, with 27 degrees recorded at the Campo de Marte station, in Jesús María.
  • Tacna: In the southern zone, the La Yarada-Los Palos district recorded an unprecedented figure of 26.1 degrees, surpassing the 25.2 degrees recorded more than two decades ago.

Meteorological authorities have warned that the increase in daytime temperatures will persist in the coastal and highland regions, accompanied by sparse cloud cover, high levels of UV radiation, and significant wind gusts.

Climate projections point to a scenario of extraordinary magnitude on the northern Peruvian coast.
