Villa Consuelo debuts the Promenade of Colors and a new Linear Park
The National District City Hall and the General Directorate of Strategic and Special Projects of the Presidency (Propeep) transformed the reality of the Villa Consuelo sector with the inauguration of a modern Paseo de los Colores (Walk of Colors) and a Linear Park. This urban intervention project covers 1,600 square meters of public art, turning the former 13th Street, now María Viuda de la Cruz, into an epicenter of culture, identity, and local history.
During the handover ceremony, Mayor Carolina Mejía highlighted the importance of inter-institutional collaboration to improve the quality of life for the residents of the capital. Likewise, she recognized the work of councilman José Eddy Otaño for his constant efforts on behalf of this community and surrounding sectors.
A space that honors Dominican identity
Robert Polanco, a representative of Propeep, emphasized that the recovery of public spaces is a shared responsibility. According to the official, the muralism captured in the Paseo de los Colores not only beautifies the environment but also strengthens the sense of belonging by rescuing the essence of a neighborhood founded after the passage of Hurricane San Zenón in 1931.
When art, culture, and community participation are integrated into these interventions, the citizens’ sense of belonging is also strengthened.

Among the figures and elements represented in the murals, the following stand out:
- Icons of popular culture: The Dominican corner store (colmado), the carnival, and characters like Califé and La Muerte en Yipe.
- Traditional games: Trúcamelo, vitilla, plaquita, and jump rope.
- National legends: Joseíto Mateo, José Alberto El Canario, the Cepeda brothers, Freddy Beras Goico, Hatuey De Camps, Dámaso Marte, and Manolo Tavárez Justo.
Commitment to the capital’s legacy
This project joins a series of successful recoveries led by the National District City Hall, which include the transformation of makeshift landfills into recreational spaces, such as Caonabo Beato Park and the Villa María linear park. The goal is for these environments to allow new generations to connect with their social heritage.
The inauguration was attended by prominent figures, including relatives of historical figures such as Hatuey De Camps, Manolo Tavárez Justo, and Freddy Beras Goico. Also in attendance was former Major League Baseball player Dámaso Marte, a native of the area, who joined the authorities’ call for residents to become guardians of this new space for community interaction.
